Re: French Camp

Sterling DeRamus

One essential piece of gear at French camp is a dew heater. My dew shield kept it at
Bay. But the guy with the 8 inch Meade was done about an hour or two after sunset.

Not this time. Probably okay for COVID since I have been vaccinated, but too many bugs to work out in my process to make it worth the time, and I do not have my current scope setup for travel.

I’ll be going over on Thursday as well.

I like the idea of an extra day if allowed. Count me in.

See you there.

Sterling, I am going.  Will not leave Wednesday given the forecast, but will depart Thursday morning.  Sunday night looks good—if Edwin allows a few of us to stay beyond the scheduled event.  Don’t know if anyone could come back on Monday and Edwin probably has that day off, so do not know.  All the best!

spectra of SN 2021gmj

Myron Wasiuta

Dear MSRO ,RAC and friends,

Last night Max and I obtained 3 hours of spectroscopy on the faint supernova in NGC 3310. We captured a very faint spectra which possibly shows an emission feature. Analysis of this data is still pending but I wanted to share our image. This is the faintest object yet (15,4 mag) that we have been able to record a spectra of showing possible detail! We used the 10" RC.

Re: pollen / humidity

Thanks!  The garage is not well insulated so I'll move the OTAs into my office.

My main issue has always been humidity and rapidly changing temps. If your detached garage is well insulated and doesn’t seen moist, covering your scope with possibly a mirror heater or dehumidifier may work fine. In my observatory, I cover the equipment and run a dehumidifier, but still requires cleaning/dusting periodically (ladybugs a month ago were all over things).

Regards,

Bob

Given the humidity around here, should I find a place in the house for my telescopes?  they currently sit in a detached garage.

Clear skies!
